Quote of the month:
"It took George Bush four hours to find Iraq, but it took him four days to find Louisiana".
That says it all.

Its Saturday and I'm unbelievably lazy.
Although I escaped a hurricane by leaving NOLA, my room looks like a hurricane went through it. The living room table is also a mess and my suitcase is still on the floor in front of my bed with things from my NOLA trip.
Continuing with things lazy is me not following up on phone calls with my buds in Chi-town regarding the wedding. I've got so much to do in so little time, but I'm slacking off like a maniac.
Hopefully I'll be able to move into my own apartment next year. I've totally outgrown my room.
My job perspective has totally changed since my boss left. The department is much more relaxed now with the new boss (the old Sr Accountant). But I can see how the old boss benefitted; I was on my game when she was around. Now I'm slacking off due to the relaxation. I'll definately have to find some real self-motivation. The good news is I'll be comfortable enough to actually stay at the job. But the job is still a pain the butt.
On the job front, I got a call from my aunt and I can take a civil service exam to be eligible for a supervisory position with the City of New York. Interesting!
And its the 9/11 anniversary. I miss those buildings.

Tuesday!
Labor Day weekend was too short, but sweet. Sitting around the house all day is awesome. Mom and I should've gone to get blinds, but who are we kidding!!
The Army Corps of Engineers are beginning to flow water out of NOLA (which is an awesome sign) but it'll take months to dry out the city.
Work's still a pain in the ass, but its a paycheck and I think I can live with it for another year. Flexible lunch hours and internet access are always a plus (guess where I'm typing out this message!)
I found a website called Craigslist that lists places to live, so I'm checking that out. It looks like my apt may come from there. Believe it or not, I may get a roomie. I need someone to hang out with (I'm getting bored!)
And my diet has finally commenced. I have no desire for sweets (amazing!). But I'm wondering if I will have to order a replacement dress from Kesha because the one that I ordered may be too big in a couple of months.
The wheels of life keep on turnin.....

Everything is finally on the up and up!
1. The people in NOLA are finally eating. Although its insufficient, water, food and medicine finally made its way to the devastated area. Most people are out of the Superdome and the Convention Center and on their way to shelters across the country. I actually saw smiles from the afflicted today. The best was this girl who got rescued in a Army chopper and she looked excited. Not only was she rescued, but this was probably her first helicopter ride :-)
2. The gym looks awesome! After returning from a two month hiatus, I've overcome my laziness and went back to the fitness center. Also the nicer weather does help out (its not 95 degrees anymore). Not to mention that in six months I'll be in a wedding and want to look nice. The first floor is totally done. Each machine has its own TV (yay!) and they have a spinning room (which I'm dying to get into). I had a good 90+ minute workout and felt totally energized. I think it also helped me get over the stress of the week.
3. Work on Friday was actually ok; at least the second half of the day. The first half of the day sucked. I swear, I work with some of the dumbest people. There's this one chick who works in the upstate NY office that sends people crap to correct that even she can't verify. I spend more time trying to find out what the heck she's doing. Pain in the butt!!!
4. Bill Maher's back on (yay!).

My first blog!
So much stuff in so little time.
I went to New Orleans last Thursday for some much needed vacation, only to be desperately run out of town early by Hurricane Katrina. I was lucky and got a flight out on Sunday. But apparently so many people didnt. The hurricane struck on Monday and it looked like everything there would be ok. But by Tuesday, the same streets that I walked with enjoyment just the previous Saturday have turned totally chaotic. And the situation has gotten worse. Hopefully that same great town that I left will come back. NOLA (New Orleans, LA) is a fabulous, warm, energetic city and its people deserve better than what they have been dealt, especially from the federal gov't.
I came back to work and everyone was glad to see me come back from NOLA (which was nice to see). Honestly, I wasn't really interested in seeing the workplace again - 1. My job sucks and 2. I was so upset at what had been going on in the Big Easy. I went back to work on Wednesday and just couldn't get into the swing of things.
Man am I glad I dont have a car. The gas price around my house is $3.69 regular (ouch!). I know there would be problems from the hurricane. I went down the Mississippi River in NOLA on the Steamboat Natchez (hopefully this true paddlewheel steamboat hasn't been destroyed). While noshing on some old fashioned Louisiana fare (jambalaya, dirty rice, fried chicken, and a delicious cocktail from the bar) we passed by the Port of New Orleans. This port handles all of the Gulf oil production, as well as the shipment of commodities like wheat, sugar and coffee. This port is now totally shut down and may not be up for weeks.
I've tried to stop watching the news channels, but can't out of worry and interest about what's going on down there. This is maybe why I've been depressed lately. I always keep looking for any good news about NOLA, but there isn't any. I watched a couple of shows last night, but always seem to find myself back at FoxNews (I've resorted to this channel!) and CNN. The federal gov't sucks! The emergency response (or lack thereof) is embarrassing.
Hopefully I'll have something good to say later.
